Tell us a little about yourself
I’m an office manager at an insurance restoration company out of Portsmouth called Insurcomm, Inc. I’ve been there for 13 years and love my job. On top of that, for the past 20 years I’ve been a family, wedding photographer. One of my first weddings was actually for Lori and Gabe! (not trying to advertise as I’m taking a bit of a break from photography to focus on me)
Dave and I have been together for roughly 20 years, I have two kids of my own. My son is 24 and my daughter is 22, and I have a step-son and step-daughter. Life has been good. I’ve been involved with fitness and gyms all my life. The past 10 years I’ve struggled with balancing work life and my own life. 90% of my time was sitting at a desk at work, or at home editing photos from week night or weekend photo sessions . I was barely getting 5 hrs of sleep a night, I wasn’t eating properly or exercising. I was very stressed and by body and mind were just tired. I knew I needed to make some lifestyle changes.
How and When did you first discover CrossFit?
I first discovered Crossfit when my daughter Kayla joined the gym about 5 years ago. She fell in love with the gym, the people and the fitness goals she was making. I wanted to join then, but Insurcomm was jamming and I was working 50+ hours a week and then photography took over every other free moment. I finally joined one of Lance’s bootcamps Labor Day of 2016. That is when the 5:15 class was born. You’re welcome a.m.-ers.
How has CrossFit helped you?
I’ve increased my average sleep time by nearly 90 minutes. That’s a huge bonus! I’ve gotten stronger. I’ve learned how much I can push myself when I feel like quitting. Today (Jan 2) is my 49th birthday. My goal is to be in the best shape ever for the big 5-0. I’ve got 365 days to make it happen!!
What is your favorite thing about the gym/CrossFit?
Favorite thing about the gym, which many people have said before, are the friendships. People who genuinely support you on your journey to be fit and become more healthy along the way. I absolutely love my 5:15 a.m. class. It’s honestly what I look most forward to every single day.

Favorite Exercise/Personal Best?
HBBS / just hit a 25# PR at 205#
Most Dreaded Exercise?
Air Assault Bike. I’d rather do burpees.
Anything else you would like to add?
A lot of people are intimidated by CrossFit. They think it’s a fad, cult-like or that you’ll hurt yourself. I see it as a healthy way of life, a place to be yourself and make great friendships and yes, you’ll definitely hurt yourself if you don’t listen to your coaches and your own body. I go into every WOD with the goal of finishing, and improving slow and steady. My C2TW girls make me laugh and make each morning at the gym one to look forward to!! Ride or die ladies!! Traps out.
